Tulsi Sangria Mocktail

For summertime vibes and summertime nourishment

This kid-friendly summer “Sangria” is the perfect hydrating beverage to bring to a barbecue, pool party, or wherever your adventures take you. Packed with a blend of supportive tonic herbs for hot, dry weather, this herbal ode to Sangria will uplift the spirit, promote cardiovascular vitality, fortify the nervous system against stress, and rehydrate those summer bods. Bring on the summer vibes sans the harmful and dehydrating effects of alcohol!

Makes about 8 beverages

Tea (Decoction)

  • 4 t dried schisandra berry

  • 4 t dried hawthorn berry

  • 6 t dried hibiscus

  • 4 t dried goji berry

  • 2 cinnamon sticks

  • 1 chopped apple

Tea (Infusion)

  • 4 t dried tulsi, or 8t fresh

  • 3 t dried marshmallow root

Mocktail

  • orange juice

  • seltzer

  • 1 chopped apple

Steps

  1. Simmer 6c water with schisandra, hawthorne berry, hibiscus, goji, cinnamon sticks, and 1 chopped apple for 20m, until it reduces to about 4 cups.

  2. Turn off heat, add tulsi and marshmallow root and cover to steep for 10m. Then uncover, strain, and refrigerate to allow to cool.

  3. Add a 2 spoonfuls of chopped apples to a chilled glass and fill the remaining space with ice nearly to the top. Pour in ~4oz of tea, ~2oz of strawberry or orange juice and a splash of seltzer to fill any remaining room. Garnish with a fresh sprig of tulsi.
